Proposed Haleko Road Striping Improvements Community Meeting

The Department of Public Works and Planning Department are working together to better accommodate all users on county roadways, including bicyclists, transit riders, motorists and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.

As part of their efforts, a conceptual design has been developed for restriping Haleko Road that will be discussed at a community meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 5:30 p.m., at the Lihu‘e Civic Center, Pi‘ikoi Building, Conf. Room A&B.

Restriping Elements

This striping plan uses the existing pavement width and new paint to:

  • designate sharrows to warn motorists that cyclists will be using the entire downhill lane,
  • climbing lanes for cyclists traveling up the hill, and
  • provides a buffer zone to separate pedestrians from motorists.

Haleko Road connects Rice Street to Kukui Grove Center.
