Our shared public spaces have become more important than ever in the past year, giving us a place to get outside, get active and breathe the fresh air in a safe and socially distanced way.
USA Today celebrates North America's great public spaces, and Kauai was recognized in a competition hosted by that publication.
Kauai's Ke Ala Hele Makalae placed fifth in USA Today's 10 Best recreational trails category for 2021 along with the nation's favorite city parks, public plazas, riverwalks, and urban kayaking spots. Winners were announced on February 26, 2021.
